This is from Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit who was in Quincy for the September 12 event:

America's prior Great Awakenings, in the 18th and 19th Centuries, were religious in nature. Unimpressed with self-serving, ossified, and often corrupt religious institutions, Americans responded with a bottom-up reassertion of faith, and independence.

This time, it's different. It's not America's churches and seminaries that are in trouble: It's America's politicians and parties. They've grown corrupt, venal, and out-of-touch with the values, and the people, that they're supposed to represent. So the people, once again, are reasserting themselves.

Just a quick correction, if you're talking about Murtha's seat, he was a Representative, not a Senator.

Some people just can't handle the fact that their are millions of average Americans out there who have awaken and are sick and tired of the liberals ruining this great country. These know it all elitist love to put down the Tea Party people. Come November we will see whether the power of the Tea Party is truly real. However, we do have another special senatorial election in Pennsylvania coming up so we may see another Obama failure.

I would give this more weight if it wasn't coming from inside the movement. The others mentioned are considered "great awakenings" from an historical perspective. This is just more "rah-rah" cheering.

An equivelant (to me) would be Tom Brady saying the Patriots are the greatest football team ever, or Peyton Manning declaring Indy to have the greatest offense in the last 30 years. It's easy to say that when you already believe it.

Just as with the previous 'awakenings', this will be something that only time will tell. Mr. Reynolds could very well be right, but he's not exactly an impartial observer, either, to be making the declaration.

Of course, and as always, all opinions expressed are my own....

WarCry, your not included in that.. lol

I am as sick as anyone could be hearing about this P&*^)%^(&%)^ tea party. When will these loosers go away? They are in there 16th minute of fame. It will be fun to watch these folks drop off the face of the Earth into yesterdays news and birdcage liners. All I can say for SM is soak it up while you can, your relevance is fading fast. Third party? My a$$!!!! Group of grandstanders??? YES!!!
