Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing will accept up to 20 additional sophomore nursing students in its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program for the 2010-11 academic year.
Blessing-Rieman evaluated its capacity to expand enrollment in light of the suspension of new student enrollment in John Wood Community College’s Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program.
“A BSN degree is a four year program, more indepth than the two-year ADN program. At the end of their effort, students come out with a higher level of skills, increased opportunity for advancement and greater employability,” said Pam Brown, PhD, RN, president/chief executive officer, Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing.
Blessing-Rieman is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and is the only college in the surrounding area that has an accredited BSN program.
Blessing-Rieman partners with Culver-Stockton College, Canton, MO; and Quincy University. Students choose to receive their general education courses from one of the partner schools, and their clinical education through Blessing-Rieman.
“With financial aid, and scholarships available to Blessing-Rieman students, earning a BSN is an affordable option,” Brown added.
The College opened in 1891 as one of the first accredited nursing education programs in the Midwest. Blessing-Rieman has grown to earn a national reputation, including having held the National League for Nursing’s Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation.
Requirements to apply as a sophomore include:
- at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- at least a 2.5 support course GPA
- Completion of at least 24 college credit hours
- An ACT score of at least a 22 or pass the Admissions Assessment Exam at BRCN
