because it is the primary cause for exporting low skilled jobs out of the country and we also need to cut:

(1) the "prevailing wage" (a bs description for polical gravy train) on government contracts that increases costs by about 30% payable by non-subsidized taxpayers, and

(2) the out of sight unreal compensation and pension deals made by republicrats with government unions.

This is not going to sit well with many uninformed people even though most intelligent people understand that a raise in the minimum is really a pay cut for them.

Rather than reducing the minimum wage, lets put a cap on the maximum wage for public companies. Say 50 times the average wage for the company. The leeches at the top have figured out how to take most of the profits home with them.

Every situation is unique.

Many employers have staff members who make minimum wage plus commission. Those are often the only staff who do get the minimum. Depending on the business and the employees productivity, that "minimum wage" employee might gross $30K, $50K....or more.

Now the State of IL has put the employer in a spot of having to give minimum wage increases to their staff who actually deserve it the least. Money that could have been used to enhance the wages of those making .... say .... $12 to $15 per hour who don't have the opportunity to make commissions.

The employer begrudgingly "gives" it and the employees on commission don't appreciate it because they feel their boss was "forced" into it.
Of course, reasonable employers who value their people and don't want to have "take aways" do NOT re-adjust the basis for commissions. The employer just sucks it up and moves on.

All the while our elected state critters continue to also vote themselves fat bonuses and not pay the States bills on time.

Lower minimum wage makes our state more appealing to new companies. If minimum wage is $8 in one state and $7 in a nieghboring state, which place would you want to move your business to?

I think it's a brilliant campaign strategy and has a very solid point. Plus, most of the minimum wage jobs are held by high school kids (i.e. grocery bagger, fast food restaurant, etc.) They either one, can't vote due to age, or two have little interest in elections.

Lowering minimum wage will lower unemployement...something this state desperately needs.

BTW, Lefty, I understand a lot of business owners' points-of-view, also. I do know that raising the minimum wage puts burdens on the business owners.

But from a purely electoral standpoint, for every one employER that would support Mr. Brady, there are 3, 5, 15, 20 employEEs in that business that are only seeing reduced paychecks.

Whether individually someone agrees with him or not, I've got to say...

"We think you're getting paid to much so if I will, I make sure you get a pay cut" seems to be a pretty unusual campaign strategy. I thought Mr. Brady actually wanted to WIN the election?

This is the first time in the 9 years I've owned a business that I've heard a politician say this.
