All Shook Up

Quincy Community Theatre will present \"All Shook Up\" July 22-25 and July 28-August 1.

All Shook Up mixes a little bit of Shakespeare with a whole lot of The King—Elvis Presley, and guarantees that your entire family will be jumpin’ out of their blue suede shoes! The book by Joe DiPiertro (I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change) sets the action in Smalltown, USA circa 1955. When “a rolling roustabout with a song in his soul and an eye for the ladies” rambles into town on his motorcycle, guitar slung over the leather jacket on his back, everyone eventually responds with new attitudes and welcome results. Memorable Elvis songs include “Jailhouse Rock,” “A Little Less Conversation,” “Love Me Tender,” “Fools Fall in Love,” “Hound Dog,” “Don’t Be Cruel,” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

Tickets go on sale online at www.1qct.org on July 10th and in the Box Office (located in the Oakley-Lindsay Civic Center) on July 12th at 10 a.m. Box Office hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

*During the Quincy Public Library renovation, the Bookies will meet at Great Debate Books, 535 Maine St.*

\"In God We Trust: all others pay cash\" by Jean Shepherd

In God We Trust, Shepherd\'s witty reunion with his Indiana hometown, disproves the adage \"You can never go back.\" Bending the ear of Flick, his childhood-buddy, Shepherd recalls his Red Ryder BB gun, adolescent failure in the arms of Junie Jo Prewitt, and relives a story of man against fish that Hemingway could not rival. From pop art to the World\'s Fair, Shepherd speaks with irony and is unabashedly grounded in the American Midwest, rendering an impression of a more innocent era when life was good, fun was clean, and station wagons roamed the earth.

Other Information:The Bookies meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:30 PM. Book selections are made 3-6 months in advance. Anyone interested in the book discussions are welcome to attend. Each book discussion group covers a large range of topics and crosses between fiction and non-fiction titles.

Quincy Community Theatre will present \"Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure\" September 17-19 and 23-26.

The world\'s greatest detective has seemingly reached the end of his remarkable career when a case presents itself that is too tempting to ignore: The King of Bohemia is about to be blackmailed by a notorious photograph, and the woman at the heart of this crime is the famous opera singer, Irene Adler. With his trusted companion, Doctor Watson, at his side, Sherlock Holmes pursues first the case, and then the affections of Miss Adler—and in doing so, marches right into the lair of his longtime adversary, that malevolent genius of crime: Professor Moriarty. In this spirited, fast-moving and thoroughly theatrical adaptation, Steven Dietz presents Holmes at the height of his powers—surrounded by all the elements that fans of his exploits have come to expect: danger, intrigue, wit, humor and surprise. \"The game is afoot, Watson—and it is a dangerous one!\"

Forever Plaid

Quincy Community Theatre will present \"Forever Plaid\" November 5-7 and 11-14.

One of the most popular and successful musicals in recent memory, this deliciously goofy revue centers on four young, eager male singers killed in a car crash in the 1950s on the way to their first big concert, and now miraculously revived for the posthumous chance to fulfill their dreams and perform the show that never was.

Singing in the closest of harmony, squabbling boyishly over the smallest intonations and executing their charmingly outlandish choreography with over-zealous precision, the \"Plaids\" are a guaranteed smash, with a program of beloved songs and delightful patter that keeps audiences rolling in the aisles when they\'re not humming along to some of the great nostalgic pop hits of the \'50s, including “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Catch a Falling Star,” “Heart and Soul,” “Day-O,” “Papa Loves Mambo,” “Magic Moments,” “Dream Along With Me,” and “Love is a Many Splendored Thing.”
