Quincy Tea Party speaker lineup grows

by Bob Gough, editor, QuincyNews.org

UPDATED: Congressman John Shadegg (R-Arizona) will address the Quincy Tea Party via a live feed at their evening meeting at Quincy's Holiday Inn.

Republican 17th District Congressional candidate Bobby Schilling will appear at the event as will Jim Hoft, who runs the Gateway Pundit Web site based out of St. Louis.

Conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart will address the Quincy Tea Party's Wednesday night meeting at the Holiday Inn. Breitbart will appear via a live feed.

Singer Jon David will also perform "American Heart" which has become the anthem of the Tea Party movement.

Previous story:

Steve McQueen of the Quincy Tea Party said it didn’t take long to decide if the group would have a presence when President Barack Obama comes to Quincy this week.

“As soon as people learned about the visit on QuincyNews.org, my e-mail blew up and my phone didn’t stop ringing,” McQueen said. “I’ve had people from Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee asking ‘What are you doing? When do we need to be there?”

The Tea Party will host its own “Maine Street to the White House” event at the Quincy Holiday Inn on Wednesday at 6 p.m. It appears President Obama will be leaving Quincy about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday after holding a town hall event  at the Oakley-Lindsay Center.

According to quincyteaparty.com, the group will appear outside the OLC:

Join Us at the Oakley Lindsey Center
for President Obama's Rally!!!

Location: 300 Civic Center Plaza
Time: 3:00PM
Bring Your Signs, Flags, etc.

Anyone displaying objectionable materials,
behavior, or language will be asked to leave.
No Exceptions.

We will depart for our next event at the Holiday Inn at 5:00 PM

We will move as close to the building as security allows.

McQueen said Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) will speak to the group via live feed and he hopes to announce other speakers over the next two days. Former Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Andrzejewski will appear at the Wednesday evening event.

Also on Wednesday evening, McQueen hopes to announce a new undertaking by the group that he says “will take the Quincy Tea Party to whole new level.”

“This is a perfect opportunity to let people know that the Tea Party has come of age,” McQueen said.

McQueen said another event at an outdoor venue is possible during the day, depending on the final details of the presidential visit.

The Quincy Tea Party already had an event scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Women’s City Club as well as marching in the Dogwood Parade.  The Saturday event will feature speakers from the St. Louis Tea Party.

But Bill Hennessy of the St. Louis Tea Party sounds like he will also be in Quincy earlier in the week.  From the St. Louis Tea Party website:

President Obama is scheduled to come to Quincy, Illinois this coming Wednesday, April 28, 2010. To quote Bill Hennessey of the St Louis Tea Party organization:

"There’s only one reason:  to slap down the Quincy Tea Party which has done fantastic work there and backing up events in St. Louis. All of us have gotten great national coverage on both Fox and BigGovernment because of the Quincy people. (Mike Flynn, editor of BigGovernment.com, is from Quincy. His mom and dad are still there.)"

K & N Patriots will lead this Wednesday’s ROLLING TEA PARTY from O’Fallon, MO to Quincy, Illinois, so come and join us in our quest to send a message to President Obama that we are "mainstream America," exercising our First Amendment rights in an orderly and lawful way and we are determined to vote any politician out of office that continues down the path of turning America into a socialist nation.

When asked why he thinks President Obama is coming to Quincy, McQueen didn’t hold back.

“I think the Democrats have to do damage control after the Phil Hare debacle,” McQueen said after Congressman Hare (D-Rock Island) made news regarding his remarks about health care and the Constitution. “I’m sure they’re going to say they want to highlight Quincy, and that’s fine, but there’s no question that the Tea Party is on their radar.”

In America (today) we still have the right to our very own opinion(s) and that includes you!
What is it that you admire in cradle to grave handouts/Big Government? Do you honestly feel this Government has your best interest at heart?
If we don't slow this Government down --- can you speak Chinese?
I very much respect your input! Thanks!

Bush and other republicans won't come here because Illinois is a Dem state run by Chicago. We were one of the first states predicted for Obama and I don't think that was because of him being from the Land of Lincoln. As to autoworkers losing benefits, look at what has happened with GM and Chrysler. The employee benefits almost buried them and still might. Look at Toyota, massive recalls and not asking for bailouts and coming back stronger than ever.

The tea party is made up of normal people sick and tired of taxes. Why should we pay for illegal aliens and their anchor babies but short change our retired military? Why would this administration fight Arizona who is actually doing the Feds job? Its this stuff that the tea party is all about and no I am not a member but am thinking about becoming one. I own a company and provide 85% of employees insurance plus dependants. My cost are going to go up so I can pay for everyones elses. That is just wrong. Our fore fathers were brillant but this current crew in DC is looking at the constitution as an obstruction, not a guiding light.

....is why Roger Davis will never be elected. Things like: "What was done to him [Hare] was uncalled for;" He was asked a question, seven times I believe, and avoided an answer for all but the last time. What was it that was "done to him?" Will you be so resistant to answering simple questions should YOU get elected? Further: "...It is not set in stone and it can be and should be changed..." Yep, but not trashed and stomped upon as it currently reads. If it is legally changed, so be it, but to just not pay attention to it was a violation of Hare's oath of office, no matter how you or he justify it. Third: "..but you have taken them completely out of context." This is really the one that will blow it for you. Your lack of a grasp of reality. Taken out of what context? It was a forum ON health care that Phil Hare orchestrated, and the question which you alledge was out of context was ABOUT health care. Hello? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

ran91...my bad, but to me the point is mute. MeMyself asked why Obama was coming here. Obama is the President of the entire country, and that includes Adams County. Outside of Texas, where would Bush have been able to go if a president could only go to places where he won the election? I am glad when ANY President comes here to meet the people.

Adams County: When Toyota took over the GM (?) plant in Tennessee about ten years ago, the union contracts were negotiated and the workers lost many benefits. I, too, could not find it today in a link, but remember that it was a big deal back then.

Name calling
Reply #34 on : Wed April 28, 2010, 11:12:30
Once again there's more name-calling than productive discussion about issues. I align myself with the ideas of the Tea Party and I am neither "long-winded" or an "ill-prepared bunch of lunatics". I am a loyal tax-paying American who believes in the United States Constitution. Therefore, I do recognize your right to comment, but slanderous verbiage is far from appropriate when you don't have a clue about whom you are talking. Just as you have a right to your comments, so do those associated with the Tea Party Movement - that is what is great about our Country. You have the right to name-call; I have the right to disagree with your ill-mannered comments.

I do not need an knowledge of these "real people" you speak of. They place themselves up on stage and voice their views and opinions and by doing so, theu open themselves up for scruitiny. I do not like the Steve McQueen and his antics. The tea party IMO, ranks right up there with the Art Bells of this world. Lunatics is the bet word I can summon to describe them. If you think I am empty minded that is your decision to lable me as such.

I will never be at anyones mercy!!! I am self reliant in this world. I have my own wheel barrow so I highly doubt that I would need yours or anything else you possess for that matter.

Back to the lunatics that are the tea party. Their mission statement is perfect, I agree inpart to what they are trying to do. I do not agree with the folks that they prop up to represent them. To me it appears as if they sat down and said "who could we get to be our face in public that would turn the most people off?" Just my 2 cents worth. take it as it is, judge me by the content, I could care less what you or anyone else thinks. Oh and I work for a staunt republican and a great deal of my co-workers are republicans. So I am used to being in the minority.

Yes MeMyself said "county" not "country" so maybe you will read closer in the future. And i would love to know how many of the voters who voted for him then would vote for him NOW. I know several who would not vote for him again. He is a one-term president.
