Hawks end 2009 right, improve to 11-0

The #22 ranked Quincy University men's basketball team will head into the New Year with a new school record under their belt. The Hawks improved to a perfect 11-0 on the season with a 92-76 win at home over Robert Morris College to set a new school record for consecutive wins to open a season.

Despite holding the lead for the entire game the end result was not determined early on. The Hawks appeared ready to pull away from the Eagles when Billy Baptist sparked a mini-run for Quincy. Baptist started the run for Quincy with a steal and fast break dunk and followed with back-to-back lay-ups. Baptist had a hand in the next bucket as well, dumping the ball off to an open Andrew Kueker and continued the momentum with another steal and fast break lay-up. Quincy led by as many as nine points in the first half at 42-33 but saw the Eagles score the final six points of the half to close the score to 42-39 at halftime.

The Hawks pulled away at the start of the second half as they built up a 25 point lead as Justin Brock took over the contest with 15 second half points en route to a career high 25 points. The Eagles did not go away quietly as guard Anthony Patton scorched the Hawks for 29 points, including nine three point field goals. Brock led Quincy with 25 points and nine rebounds as six Hawks finished in double figures in scoring.

Quincy is now 11-0 on the season and breaks the previous mark for consecutive wins to open a season which was set in the 1988-89 season. The Hawks return to action on Saturday on the road when they face the University of Indianapolis.
