Wildcat men, women fall to Mo. Valley

Canton, Mo. - Senior guard Phil Peugh scored a career-high 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the Culver-Stockton College men's basketball team fell to Missouri Valley 59-53 Wednesday night at Charles Field House.

The Vikings, who led 31-30 at the intermission, ran off a 16-3 run to start the second half and the Wildcats could quite catch up in falling to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference.

Peugh, who totaled 18 of his 29 points in the second half, tied a school record with seven 3-pointers in a single game. Mark Heaton, Pat Hempen, Phil Heine and Jordan Harris have all drained seven treys in a game for the Wildcats. Peugh has now done it twice, including last season at Columbia College (Mo.).

The Wildcats drilled 11 three-pointers in the game, making only seven field goals inside the 3-point arc. Culver-Stockton was six of 10 in the first half, and 5 for 19 in the second period beyond the 3-point stripe.

Jordan Ayers, who hit two treys early, paced the Wildcats with seven rebounds and five assists to go along with his six points. He also had two blocks.

The Wildcats complete the 2009 portion of their schedule this weekend at the Marion Holiday Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind. Culver-Stockton is scheduled to play Marian University at 6 p.m. EST on Friday night, December 18.
