Friends of the Castle elects officers and board members

The Friends of the Castle recently elected Officers & Board Members for the 2010-11 year.  Officers are: Trudy Rollins, President; Paul Brown, Vice President; Ron Larner, Secretary; Donna Haire, Treasurer; Judy Gay, Assistant Treasurer.

Re-elected to three-year terms as board members were: Paul Brown, Karrie Butterfield, Judy Gay and Joel Peck.  They join continuing board members Lowell Glas, Dave Griffin, Donna Haire, Rich Howell, Ron Larner, Trudy Rollins, Cindy Eddy-Roope, and Dave Schlembach. 

Friends of the Castle restored and operates the Villa Kathrine, 532 Gardner Expressway, Quincy.  It is a not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, and a member of the Quincy Society of Fine Arts, Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce, Quincy Preserves, and Illinois Association of Museums.

Built in 1900 on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, the Mediterranean-style Villa Kathrine is celebrating its 110th birthday this year.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Illinois Register of Historic Places, and the Register of Local Quincy Landmarks.

The Villa serves as Quincy's Official Tourist Information Center, Great River Road Interpretive Center and home of the Quincy Area Convention & Visitors Bureau.  It is also available for tours, and the building and grounds are available to rent for special activities and events.
